This pure abstract was enormous fun to develop. The colours seemed to want to talk to each other and if you look closely, you’ll just about make out the mix of media.

This is an example of ‘going into the zone,’ when the artist feels totally at one with his or her work, to the exclusion of all else. Hope you like it. There’s acrylic, felt tip pen, acrylic ink, pastel and a dash of magic going on in here!

This painting started on a sunny afternoon in Bakewell, sitting by the side of the river, idly looking across the water and committing the view to memory, helped by a few photos for reference. I am not quite sure if it is finished yet – sometimes I look at it and feel it is missing something, while others I’m scared of overdoing it. Following on to Viv Vernon’s succesful transformation of her five barred gate with the addition of a robin (see Guest Art no: 12) I can’t help thinking a small , but important detail would complete this one. What do you think? I plan to enter this painting into the Derbyshire Open exhibition this year, at the Buxton Art Gallery, so your opinion would be greatly valued.

This started as a mark on a page in my sketchbook, which led to another and just seemed to keep going. I came back to it, liked what I saw, then did a couple more sessions until it arrived at the point you see here. It is what I would term a “happy” piece and I think it will trigger more intricate images in the same vein in the future. Watch this space!
